E-Learning

E-Learning is about bringing learning to people instead of bringing people to learning. It provides just-in-time training delivery and helps staff to re-skill and upgrades their skills to stay ahead of competition. Through a special partnership with Institute of Systems Science (ISS), National University of Singapore, SIIT is making available a suite of high quality e-learning courses to professionals in India.

Why e-Learning at SIIT - ISS?
High-quality courseware, underpinned by structured learning pedagogy
Course content is thoroughly reviewed by NUS/ISS’ own teaching and research staff
Courses are designed to help students achieve recognized certifications
Learning services that exploit the knowledge of peers and domain experts

ISS Virtual Institute - Learning on Demand
ISS delivers its e-Learning programs through its Virtual Institute (VI) platform, which runs on a technology infrastructure called KnowledgeBeansTM developed by ISS. The VI is a student-centric e-Learning environment that satisfies the learning-on-demand need by assembling personal learning components on demand to meet specific individual needs. The VI offers different versions of e-Learning, comprising courses that are conducted mostly online, and courses that combine online learning and traditional face-to-face instruction.

Maximum Learning, Minimum Effort
A learner connecting to the VI will first specify what he wants to learn, perhaps given a little test, and will then be offered a customized learning agenda. The VI will teach him only what he wants to learn, based on what he already knows. No more sitting in class tuning out because the instructor is covering old ground or bringing the rest of the class up to speed - the VI offers new and challenging material from the first hour of learning. And, the learner will be free to take the material anytime, anywhere, at his own pace, and as often as he needs to.

Flexible but Focused Learning
The learner is not required to follow a fixed order of learning. The learner who wants to move in a straight line can follow the agenda strictly, but the student who prefers to explore, to digress, and to follow up interesting references can freely do so, through our network of interrelated concepts. There is no fear of getting lost in a maze of Web pages - one mouse click will take him back to the main agenda from anywhere in the VI.
Learning is closely tracked, with exercises and assignments after each important concept or topic, and automatic grading on the spot. With one mouse click, the learner can review current progress with their agenda, and check the cumulative grade. The learner can access discussion forums related to the topic. If he needs help from the instructors, context sensitive email is only one mouse click away. No need to explain where he is in the course. When the instructor receives the email, one mouse click will bring up the exact same Web page the learner was looking at.

Personal Preference with Role Relevance
Job related agendas is another innovative feature of the VI. Here the learner specifies what job he would like to be qualified for. If a learner says "I want to be a Webmaster", the VI will create a customized learning agenda based on the skill set that a Webmaster needs and the competencies of the learner. The certificates of competency that the VI will issue will be of direct value: they demonstrate that the learner has acquired up-to-date proficiency that can be put to immediate and effective use in the field.

Enabling Lifelong Learning
In a world of rapid technological change, and in a profession that is one of the most rapidly changing, every worker must continually acquire new skills to remain employable. One of the key business objectives of the VI is to enable that lifelong learning process to become part of the daily life of every IT professional.

ISS KnowledgeBeans™
The VI runs on a technology infrastructure called KnowledgeBeansTM that was developed by ISS. e-Learning using KnowledgeBeansTM will be based on a learner-centred paradigm instead of teacher-centred, and a competency-based educational model instead of degree-based
